Industrial Medical Assistant (Guyana)

Office: RMI Guyana

SUMMARY

Industrial Medical Assistants (IMA) of all levels provide medical care at the direction of RMI’s Corporate Medical Director, and designees. In addition to duties involving medical care and rescue, Industrial Medical Assistants act in a support role to RMI clients while conducting themselves in the highest standard in the industry. IMA’s help in maintaining quality, long-term relationships with RMI clients through the delivery of medical care and rescue in industrial and sometimes remote and austere environments in accordance with professional standards of care, state regulations and accreditation standards and RMI policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide advice and medical treatment for primary health care, general practice, and emergency situations as dictated by prevailing protocols and scope of practice.
  • To provide care and treatment across the continuum of injuries, illnesses, and disorders from trauma to routine management of chronic diseases.
  • Performs QHSE activities as directed by the client including safety inspections, health and hygiene monitoring and QHSE training.
  • Identify and ensure the correct management of vector suppression of transmissible diseases specific to the risks of the worksite. (Includes but not limited to malaria).
  • Assist in the application of anti-venom and understand the management of the effects thereof, including anaphylaxis.
  • Assist in the ownership and management of ongoing serviceability of allocated kit and equipment as assigned, for continued delivery of medical services.
  • Demonstrates and ensures knowledge, understanding and compliance of RMI policies and procedures.
  • Assures patient’s safety in accordance with the rules, regulations, protocols, policies, and procedures of RMI, including the laws and regulations of the state and local governments, consistent with good judgment and the provision of high-quality patient care.
  • Always adhere to regulations regarding proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Body Substance Isolation (BSI) when interacting with patients. Is familiar with and practices the Infection Control policies and procedures of RMI.
  • Must be able to perform Point of care testing example Malaria, dengue etc.
  • Must be able to carry out, urine drug screen: sample collection and testing in accordance with DOT laws.
  • Assist in the management and delivery of routine (monthly) medical training campaigns. Establish medical/first aid response group, as assigned, and agreed with the Project (Site) Manager
  • Complete RMI and client reporting requirements as noted within each individual project and/or client.
  • Extremely strong attention to detail regarding patient assessments as this position is acting as an independent and remote professional communicating via telephony with the supervising physicians.
  • Undertake medical escort duties as required.
  • Maintain medical center facilities in accordance with RMI and prevailing standards.
  • Represent RMI in a professional manner at all times.
  • Maintain current professional certifications, as designated for assigned projects.
  • Other duties as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Interviews patient about current problems, medications, and allergies and reviews electronic health record for pertinent previous and current information.
  • Regular communication via telephony and internet with physicians and Advanced Practitioners to determine a course of action for a given presentation.
  • Participates in patient treatment regimen, including administering medications (under the supervision of a physician via telemedicine consultation).
  • Establishes and documents patient treatment regimen in electronic health record under supervision of the remote physician and implements treatment.
  • Occasional off-site travel in company vehicle to respond to requests for service for minor ailments and work-site injuries as requested by the client.
  • Performs routine immunizations, nebulizer treatments, and visual acuity testing, and administers and reads tests as appropriate.
  • Performs other clinical taskings as directed after appropriate physician-led training (i.e., steri-strip wound covering).
  • Maintains adequate inventory of examination room supplies and prepares exam rooms at the beginning and end of day and between each patient contact.
  • Performs variety of office responsibilities: answers phone and takes messages and performs. triage within scope of licensed practical nursing practice in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Facilitates and assists in the coordination of patient referrals.
  • Participates in the orientation and training of new personnel.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Current certification/license as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • 3 years’ experience, or 4,160 hours, at the current license level that will be practiced in the field.
  • Prior work experience in industrial settings with knowledge of reporting requirements preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in medical reporting, specifically the definition of first aid and medical treatment cases.
  • Global Coordination Centre – Experience of working with Medical Topside and case management specialists (training to be given).
  • Ability to demonstrate proactivity and self-proficiency in management of workload.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, and general computer & technology literacy

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:

  • Current BLS, ACLS, CPR with AED at the medical rescuer level.
  • Current license in respective discipline.
  • Current project-specific certifications, vaccinations and travel documents as required.

PREFERRED (some projects required):
